Material

The first thing to look for is the material of your bed frame. It is recommended that your bed is made from durable material such as 100% timber or stainless steel. There are wooden bunk beds in the market available for a cheaper price than timber bunk beds, but the wood used in such beds is highly likely to weaken with the moisture and humidity in the environment.  

Shake Test

The second important step during your purchase of a bunk bed is to get the shake test done. Check the bed you are considering to purchase and give it a shake to feel how solid it is. Again, this relates to the material of the bed frame. A solid material like real timber or metal will be super stable, even if you shake the bunk bed vigorously. Other bunk beds, made from materials like pine, will start shaking and going back and forth with the shakes you apply on the frame.

Safety Standard

Another one of the things you want to look for when you’re buying a bunk bed is to make sure it passes the safety standards. Your bunk bed should have a max mattress height mark, which will show the height that the mattress can be. What this does is it stops you from tipping over the border of the bed, when you or your kid is sleeping in the bed. If the mattress is too high, then the top rail would not be able to provide sufficient support and protection from fall. Similarly, you must also look for the amount of slabs used to support the mattress on the bed. Our bunk beds have several slabs on the top bunk; what this does is it distributes the weight and gives the bed more strength. We recommend that you drill the slabs in their pre-drilled holes. This will prevent any accidents from happening even if the kids are playing a bit rough with each other.
