Your bedroom is a personal retreat for yourself. You want it to reflect your personality and character. Having a vintage bed style is about making a statement – you want to be unique, stylish and have a bedroom full of character. In this article, we are going to go over popular vintage bed styles.

1. DAY BED: The first bed we are going to discuss is the day bed. It was first introduced amongst the European royalty back in the 18th century. It is a small bed that comes in three parts joined together to make a platform to rest on. The frame of the bed comes in a variety of styles, but the most popular one has intricate woodworkings that leave an impression at first sight. However, given its small size,  the bed is supposed to be just for sitting and laying down temporarily, instead of long and relaxing slumbers.
2. DOUBLE BED: A vintage double bed is just a double bed with a vintage styled frame. It holds the iconic large headboard and footboard look. The framework of the bed is usually made from metal, with painted bars on either side of the bed. French or Scandinavian inspired double bed may be carved from fine quality wooden frame. The bed is very sturdy and allows for two people to sleep on it.
3. SINGLE BED: Similar to the double bed in style, the single bed is meant for one person and will take up little space in your room, especially if you live in a small home.
4. FOUR POSTER BED: This is an iconic bed that dates back to the 15th century. As its name says, the bed dominantly features four larger posters that hold a ceiling over the mattress. The bed frame is usually made from wood and features elaborate carvings. You can also find metal frames in this style. However, the true vintage look comes from the wooden bed and long tapestries hanging from the canopy. In short, this bed is a status symbol and will greatly improve the character of your bedroom.
5. SUPER KING SIZE BED: This type of bed is large, which is not surprising  given its ‘Super King’ label. The bed features a very prominent headboard, with elegant and smooth curves. The footboard is styled like the headboard, but is a lot shorter. The most popular vintage look in this style features padded boards, covered in velvet or other type of cloth. There are also metallic variants of this bed and look equally great.

While vintage bed styles are quite exquisite, you do need to keep in mind to be practical as well. Many vintage styles are too elaborate and require large bedrooms. If you live in a small home, you may want to get a bed style that fits in your bedroom and still leaves you with ample surrounding space. However, if this is not a problem, then getting one is a great choice and will truly make your bedroom unique.
